The Impact

S&P Global Market Intelligence Legal Department is looking to expand the support coverage for the Business globally, so it can respond in an agile manner to legal and negotiation requests.

The Role

Responsible for supporting the management and organization of SPGMI Legal. Primary functions will be to assist and provide legal and administrative support to the global team. The role will also assist business colleagues in using the various contract tools, including the contracts database and other office applications.

The position assists the Department in making a significant contribution to the processing and databasing of contracts, but also in analyzing unique business and intellectual property issues specific to SPGMI. The role provides the individual exposure to the business legal issues as well as the technology that supports the department.

Required Skills

I am looking for someone with a diverse combination of legal, business, and technical skills that include: process development, data quality activities, contracts reconciliation, KPI and report development, and maintaining accurate data within the contracts database platform used by S&P Global.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to internal client inquiries (“hotline”) regarding legal and contract issues in a timely manner.
  • Review submitted deal requests; includes checking draft contracts produced by Sales or other internal clients; may include making Minor Changes to contract documents as per existing scope set by Legal Operations team.
  • Perform data entry of executed contracts into the contracts database. Perform accurate and timely review of key business and legal provisions in executed contract and entering such provisions in the contracts database
  • Investigating contract administrative issues (e.g. determining whether a contract is still “active” or being billed by PIMS); interfacing with both the sales administration staff and other business staff to determine the status of contracts
  • Recommends process improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Maintenance of boilerplate library (including Translations)/ ownership (in-network drive and database platform) including communications regarding boilerplate changes
  • Respond to change in entity/ assignment letters and termination letters
  • Create reports (both general and complex) from contracts database, working with internal database users on their reporting requests. Work with manager to establish reporting processes and procedures.
  • Assist in data quality assurance of the contents of the contracts database and department’s intranet website and other departmental applications
  • Special projects as assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 2+ years of experience in a related position such as legal or paralegal and administrative support functions.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing data and utilizing data analysis tools and techniques
  • Ability to collaborate with other business or technology teams
  • Experience interpreting complex legal, financial, and technical licensing terms and conditions and contracts
  • Experience working within the Salesforce.com platform is a plus
  • Experience working databases, SQL a plus

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate (hands-on experience) in contract drafting, good negotiation, and execution skills i.e., ability to draft, negotiate and close transactions independently
  • Good contract drafting skill sets.
  • Good knowledge of Contract Act 1857, Copyright Law and Trademark laws, Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act1995, TRAI Regulations
  • Well-versed with various content regulations such as the Self-Regulation Code framed by the IBF and the BCCC Guidelines, the ASCI, NCPCR guidelines, Should have excellent research skills.
  • Good communication skillsets are required.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Hon’ble judge in the discharge of administrative and judicial functions, the Legal Researcher shall perform the following duties:
  • To read the case files, and prepare the case i.e. case summary and notes and chronology of events of such a comprehensive nature, that it may give to the Hon’ble Judge a complete view of the matter, including the legal questions involved, and the latest case-law having bearing on the case either way,
  • To search and research legal points and principles under control and guidance of Hon’ble Judge,
  • To search out case law, articles, papers and other relevant material required in the discharge of judicial/administrative work.
  • To take down notes of arguments and to prepare notes of cases.
  • To identify facts, issues and questions that may arise in the course of arguments, or as may be relevant for judgment,
  • To maintain a record of judgments by the Hon’ble Judge along with the point of law decided in that particular case, and to maintain it in such a manner, as to be very conveniently retrievable, as and when needed by the Judge, for any purpose whatever.
  • Maintenance of record of administrative correspondence, administrative files, and, if specifically entrusted, of the particular judicial file(s),
  • To perform whatever is directed, in the course of imparting training to him, with regard to procedure and substantive law,
  • To assist Hon’ble Judge in preparing any speech/academic paper.

Eligibility

  • A candidate must be a fresh law graduate or postgraduate in law from Universities/colleges/ Institutions established by law in India.
  • A candidate must have basic knowledge of computers.
  • Age and Nationality: A candidate must not have attained the age of 33 years on January 1 preceding the last date fixed for submission of the online application.
  • He/ She must be a citizen of India.

Disqualification Criteria

  • The candidate must not be a practising advocate nor engaged/appointed elsewhere, on an honorarium/payment basis.
  • A candidate must not have more than one wedded spouse, nor should be. married to such a person, who already had a living spouse at that time.
  • A candidate should not be involved in any criminal case, whether convicted or against whom the criminal trial is pending.

Salary

  • A fixed honorarium of Rs 50,000/- per month without any dearness or other allowance/ perquisite, shall be paid to the Legal Researcher.
  • Proportionate reduction of honorarium shall be made for unauthorized absence, so also for absence beyond the permissible period of leave.

Certificate

  • On successful completion of the term of assignment, a certificate by the Registrar General shall be issued, in the form prescribed in Schedule-IV.
  • If the assignment is terminated due to pre-mature discharge by the High Court, or due to voluntarily giving up an assignment, by the Legal Researcher concerned, no such certificate shall be given.

Selection of Legal Researcher

  • Online applications for appointment of Legal Researcher will be placed before the Hon’ble Judge concerned.
  • Under the directions of the Hon’ble Judge concerned, shortlisting of the applications may also be done on the basis of the academic carrier and extracurricular achievements of the incumbents.
  • Selection of the Legal Researcher will be made by Hon’ble the Chief Justice of the Hon’ble Judge concerned after interviewing the candidates for assessing their suitability.
