WEBINAR ON RESTITUTION BY LAWTSAPP: REGISTER NOW!

Topic: RESTITUTION OF CONJUGAL RIGHTS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Speaker:  Adv. Pargya Parijat Singh

(Advocate| Researcher| Educator| Public Speaker|| Partner at EL Associates| Recipient of MHRD Central Sector Scholarship| Panel Counsel)

The word “restitution” was used in the earlier common law to denote the return or restoration of a specific thing or condition. In modern legal usage, its meaning has frequently been extended to include not only the restoration or giving back of something to its rightful owner and returning to the status quo but also compensation, reimbursement, indemnification, or reparation for benefits derived from, or for loss or injury caused to, another. In summary, therefore, the word “restitution” means the relinquishment of a benefit or the return of money or other property obtained through an improper means to the person from whom the property was taken.

A decree of restitution of conjugal rights implies that the guilty party is ordered to live with the aggrieved party. Restitution of conjugal rights is the only remedy which could be used by the deserted spouse against the other.

WEBINAR ON DIVORCE BY LAWTSAPP: REGISTER NOW!

Topic: DIVORCE UNDER THE HINDU MARRIAGE ACT, 1955

Speaker: Adv. Aastha Chadha (Advocate| Researcher| Educator| Public Speaker| Founding and Managing Partner LNS Associates| WCSF Panel Member)

Divorce as a concept is the process of terminating a marriage or marital union. Divorce usually entails the canceling or reorganizing of the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage, thus dissolving the bonds of matrimony between a married couple under the rule of law of the particular country or state.

Divorce laws vary considerably around the world, but in most countries, divorce requires the sanction of a court or other authority in a legal process, which may involve issues of distribution of property, child custody, alimony (spousal support), child visitation/access, parenting time, child support, and division of debt. In most countries, monogamy is required by law, so divorce allows each former partner to marry another person.

International Conference on Maritime Dispute Resolution

In Association with

  • Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre (GIMAC)
  • Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB)
  • Centre for Public International Law, Gujarat National Law University (GNLU)

About Gujarat Maritime University

Gujarat Maritime University is a bespoke institution for the advancement of Maritime education and research in India. The prime objective of the University is to be a global centre of excellence in maritime education, research, and training. It aims to enhance and increase the human capital and capacity of the maritime industry both in India and across the globe.

The University offers Diploma Programmes in law with specialisations in Maritime Law and International Trade Law. The University also offers short-term Executive Developments Programmes specially designed for working professionals.

International Conference on Maritime Dispute Resolution

Centre for Maritime Dispute Resolution, Gujarat Maritime University takes immense pride in announcing its First Annual  International Conference on Maritime Dispute Resolution. The Conference intends to act as an intellectual and productive knowledge-sharing space for all academia, researchers, students, industrialists, and enthusiasts of Maritime Law.

About the Conference

Ships are the largest man-made moving objects on the earth. About 90% of the goods are moved using these ships. The largest moving objects, carrying almost all kinds of cargo and undertaking dangerous voyages, ships are capable of causing huge damages, financial losses, and breaching laws nationally and internationally. Under most systems of law, the person amenable to a dispute arising out of a ship is the owner and demise-charterer, which is usually a company. The company may have been incorporated in any part of the world and having tangible assets other than the ship, which might be mortgaged. Hence, it makes adjudication of maritime legal disputes by litigation a complicated process. Further, Arbitration is also now a usual mechanism resorted to resolve maritime disputes and is being seen as more effective and expeditious than litigation but remains dominated only by few nations and comes with its limitations. Therefore, Gujarat Maritime University strives to bring to light various intricacies of Maritime Dispute Resolution through the International Conference on Maritime Dispute Resolution by providing a platform to researchers, scholars, academicians, professionals, and students to showcase their research.

Webinar on Legal Entrepreneurship for New India by Legal Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell, USLLS, GGSIPU [July 28]: Register by July 27

About the Organizer

Established in 2001, USLLS’s objective was to run Five Year Integrated Professional Law Courses and to serve as an institution of advanced legal studies. It was the first University Law School established in the vicinity of the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, various subordinate courts, commissions, tribunals and various monitoring offices of national and international voluntary organizations. Its Faculty is selected prescribing higher qualification than the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The approach of the law school is to develop a positive attitude in students and make them realize that the lawyers are an integral part of the system of adjudication, determination of policies and setting up of standards for regulation of various activities through relevant institutions.

The Legal Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell (LEIC)

Legal entrepreneurs approach the law (of any jurisdiction) as though it is a marketplace, akin to the manner in which the classical business entrepreneur approaches the economic marketplace. Legal entrepreneurship is an inherently multi-disciplinary exercise that moves beyond the classical lawyers perceived boundaries. Legal entrepreneurships are thus best viewed as the process of achieving a distinctive, sustainable position in the economic market by the deliberate and innovative exploitation of one or more legal flexibilities. Thus, an entrepreneurship cell is an important branch in any educational institution today.

The Legal Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell seeks to perform the following roles:

Firstly, it shall act as a think tank to devise new ways to amalgamate legal education with entrepreneurial training. Secondly, it shall ensure that the ways devised by it are implemented effectively so as to produce the desired result. Thirdly, it shall ensure smooth introduction of entrepreneurial education into the law school curriculum and make appropriate strategy for the same. The strategy shall be revised from time to time. Fourthly, the cell shall fill the gap between planning and implementation of the entrepreneurial training of law students.

About the Webinar

The Webinar marks the inauguration of Legal Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell. The broad topic of ‘Legal Entrepreneurship for New India’ will raise pertinent points of discussion on all facets of boosting entrepreneurship in the legal sector. The webinar will be held on 28th July, 2021 at 4 PM.
