Call for Applications | NLSIU | Visiting Fellow for Regulatory Governance project

NLSIU invites applications for the role of Visiting Fellow for its Regulatory Governance Project. The two-year project, which was initiated earlier this year, seeks to develop a cross-cutting view on regulatory governance in India.

About the Project

The project aims to ‘restock the regulatory toolkit’ for India by identifying the legal structures and norms of regulatory authorities and their parent bodies that best serve to create autonomous and accountable institutions. This understanding is intended to assist policymakers and regulators in shaping targeted improvements in regulatory frameworks and practices, and enhance their understanding of the potential for new technologies in the twenty-first century.

As part of this initiative, NLSIU is currently assisting regulators to make their regulations more effective. This involves, among other things, frequent interface with regulators to understand existing challenges, and assessment of emerging risks that regulations should address. This cross-cutting research is supported by Omidyar Network India, an investment firm focused on social impact.

Visiting Fellow

Part-time legal researchers and professionals with expertise in the financial services sector, who can assist the NLSIU team as part of their regulatory initiatives. Candidates will be required to commit a specific number of hours every week for the project. Remuneration will be discussed based on the experience of the candidate and the time committed to the project.

Due to COVID-related restrictions, engagement will be on a hybrid basis.

Who can apply?

  • A degree in law, and either a Masters degree or extensive professional experience
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with contemporary law and policy issues in the financial sector, along with demonstrable expertise in regulatory governance

About the Blog

Gender Justice Cell at NLIU endeavors to promote gender equality and raises concerns against acts of injustice and discrimination on grounds of sex and promotes research based on the issues related to gender and law. NLIU Blog of Law And Gender offers a forum for critical research on the interplay of contemporary issues in gender-related laws, both from an academic and social perspective. Along with exploring the various problems and challenges that affect the gender issue, the blog attempts to explore and offer workable solutions, which may be helpful in regulatory and policy decisions. The Editorial Board welcomes submissions of original articles, comments, and discussions related to Law and Gender. It aims to promote a culture of scholarly research and academic writing among students by publishing articles of subjects of interest to the legal profession and academia.

Eligibility

Law students pursuing the three-year LLB, as well as the five years integrated LLB program, students pursuing LLM or Ph.D., Research Associates, Academicians, Educators, practitioners, and professionals interested or involved in the area are eligible to submit.

Themes

The submissions by the writer(s) must strictly conform to originality within the broad theme of Gender Law and related legal aspects. Submissions may include case comments on recent judgments, legislative comments on any legislation affecting gender rights, or any article on contemporary issues of gender law. Further, submissions analyzing or critiquing already existing academic research on a topic or issue are also welcome.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions shall be typewritten in Garamond, font size 12 with line spacing 1.5 and justified alignment.
  • Submissions shall not be less than 1200 words and shall not exceed 1500 words (exclusive of endnotes).
  • Submissions shall contain hyperlinks in the body of the manuscript itself, instead of footnotes and endnotes. Endnotes may be used for references where hyperlinks are not possible, or the source is under a paywall or offline – such as books, articles, etc.
  • The Authors should conform to the Bluebook (20th edition) Uniform System of Citation. Endnotes shall be typewritten in, Garamond, font size 10, single-line spacing, and justified alignment.
  • The Manuscript should not contain any identification of the author/s, which shall be a ground for rejection of the submission.
  • The submission must be the original work of the authors. Plagiarism beyond 10% shall not be accepted.
  • Manuscripts shall be assessed by subjection to Blind Review Procedure. Reviewers shall not be informed of the author’s name, university, year in college, or any other personal information.
  • Submissions shall be lucid, contemporarily relevant, and well-researched. They shall contain a novel analysis of the issue by the author(s).
  • Authors will be informed regarding acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts within 10 to 14 days and an acknowledgement receipt will be sent within 48 hours of submission of the manuscript.

About the speaker

Professor Stone is Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor and Director of the Centre for Comparative Constitutional Studies at Melbourne Law School. She researches in the areas of constitutional law and constitutional theory with particular attention to freedom of expression. She is a Kathleen Fitzpatrick Australian Laureate Fellow and her Laureate Program on Comparative Constitutional Law assembles a research team to investigate challenges to liberal democratic constitutionalism. She has published widely in international and Australian journals including, recently, in the Federal Law Review, Vienna Journal on International Constitutional Law, International Journal of Constitutional Law, Constitutional Commentary. She is the author (with Carolyn Evans) of Open Minds: Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech (2021). With Cheryl Saunders AO she is editor of the Oxford Handbook on the Australian Constitution (2018) and with Frederick Schauer, she is editor of the Oxford Handbook on Freedom of Speech 2021.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the University and faculty members to meet day-to-day communication needs
  • Closely work with the graphic designer / visual content creator to create in-house communication products like notices, posters, advertisements, social media content, newsletters, press releases, brochures, reports, proposals etc.
  • Write content for the above communications materials.
  • Advice and assist NLU Delhi faculty and the university in their communication needs (including but not limited to writing press releases, statements, posters and notices, etc)

Eligibility

Master’s degree in Communication / Mass Communication / Development Communications /International Relations/Social Sciences/Literature or from any other relevant field.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years of working experience in a communications position.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and handling digital communications.
  • Communications management and execution.
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices, strategies and techniques
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Knowledge of InDesign/Photoshop), and experience of working with multimedia tools (i.e broadcast and video or radio technology) would be an advantage.
  •  Attention to detail, writing, editing, proofreading skills.
  •  Experience in writing copy and taglines and creating in-house communication products.

Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary, binding process in which an impartial and neutral mediator facilitates disputing parties in reaching a settlement. Webinar Series

In India, the origin of mediation is obscured by the lack of clear historical and official records of indigenous processes of dispute resolution systems due to our colonial past. However, recently mediation has emerged as a fast-growing disputes redressal mechanism. The supreme court of India has constituted a mediation and conciliation project committee to oversee the effective implementation of mediation and conciliation in the country. The objective of our webinar series is to create awareness among the target groups to understand the technicalities of mediation and its dimensions.
This webinar series will try to improve the skills of conducting mediation to the mediation professionals and will be useful as an advocacy programme to the law students in the State of Chhattisgarh and across the nation. Our aim is to achieve a high standard practice of mediation to resolve complex disputes like property, family, civil and commercial. The entire webinar series is divided into four sessions and our experts will come from a variety of backgrounds and include professionals from different walks of life, academician, legal practitioners, and Judges.

The participant can be from inside or outside of the University.
• HNLU students across all Batches, and Faculties.
• Undergraduate and postgraduate law students, research scholars, Advocates and
ADR enthusiasts.
• Professionals practicing ADR.
