Call for Applications | NLSIU | Visiting Fellow for Regulatory Governance project

NLSIU invites applications for the role of Visiting Fellow for its Regulatory Governance Project. The two-year project, which was initiated earlier this year, seeks to develop a cross-cutting view on regulatory governance in India.

About the Project

The project aims to ‘restock the regulatory toolkit’ for India by identifying the legal structures and norms of regulatory authorities and their parent bodies that best serve to create autonomous and accountable institutions. This understanding is intended to assist policymakers and regulators in shaping targeted improvements in regulatory frameworks and practices, and enhance their understanding of the potential for new technologies in the twenty-first century.

As part of this initiative, NLSIU is currently assisting regulators to make their regulations more effective. This involves, among other things, frequent interface with regulators to understand existing challenges, and assessment of emerging risks that regulations should address. This cross-cutting research is supported by Omidyar Network India, an investment firm focused on social impact.

Visiting Fellow

Part-time legal researchers and professionals with expertise in the financial services sector, who can assist the NLSIU team as part of their regulatory initiatives. Candidates will be required to commit a specific number of hours every week for the project. Remuneration will be discussed based on the experience of the candidate and the time committed to the project.

Due to COVID-related restrictions, engagement will be on a hybrid basis.

Who can apply?

  • A degree in law, and either a Masters degree or extensive professional experience
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with contemporary law and policy issues in the financial sector, along with demonstrable expertise in regulatory governance

The University invites online applications for the hiring of a Consultant specialising in Human Resources Management for a period of 2 years. The HR Consultant will be responsible for undertaking the following tasks:

▪ Managing and enhancing end-to-end HR processes and enable the transition from manual systems to HRMS;
▪ Work closely with the leadership team to plan, design, implement and evaluate a HR plan, policies, programmes and processes;
▪ Stakeholder management and managing and partnering with external partners to drive key initiatives/plans;
▪ Drive employee engagement initiatives across the organization;
▪ Monitor internal HR systems and databases;
▪ Completing performance reviews in a timely manner;
▪ Monitoring and ensuring compliance with labour law and other statutory requirements.

Call for Papers

The Indian Arbitration Law Review is now inviting submissions for Volume 4.

Sub-themes

The Journal welcomes submissions on any of the following sub-themes:

  • Accreditation Norms of Arbitrators in India: Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act, 2021
  • Challenges to enforcing awards in Investor-State disputes
  • Arbitration in a post-COVID-19 world
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence in Arbitration

Note

The above sub-themes are only illustrative, and the Journal welcomes submissions on any topic related to arbitration.

Submission Categories

Submissions can be made under the following categories:

  • Long Articles (4000-8000 words): The article must be a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of a contemporary issue in arbitration law and should include references to a range of sources and contributions in the form of alternatives and suggestions.
  • Short Articles (2000-4000 words): The article must be an analysis of a contemporary issue in arbitration law and should include a reference to a range of sources and contributions in the form of alternatives and suggestions.
  • Case Comments (1500-4000 words): The comment must be an analysis of a recent judgment, bringing out its relevance in light of the development of arbitration law, views expressed in the judgment and the opinion(s) of the author.
  • Book Reviews (1000-3000 words): The review must be a crisp account of a recently published book on arbitration, including the issues explored and related arguments of the author.

The word limit is exclusive of footnotes and abstracts. The prescribed word limit may be relaxed up to 10%, at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions are accepted only in the English language.
  • All articles must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 300 words. Case Comments and Book Reviews do not need to be accompanied by abstracts.
  • The abstract must expressly include the novelty and usefulness of the idea that the author wishes to put forth and must categorically mention the specific contribution of the article beyond the existing available literature.
  • Co-authorship (with no cap on authors) is permitted for all articles.
  • The manuscript should not contain any references to the identity of the authors. However, authors are allowed to cite their previous published work.
  • The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 12 and 1.5-line spacing.
  • The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 10 and single line spacing.
  • The citations must conform to the style of OSCOLA (4th Edition).
  • Manuscripts should only use footnotes as a means of citation. No other method of citation is permitted.
  • Substantive footnotes are permissible.

  • Kindly send your manuscript in MS Word (.docx) format to ialr@nliu.ac.in
  • The subject of the email should be “Submission for Volume 4 – <Title of the manuscript>”. The submissions must be sent by 11:59 pm, 31st August 2021.
  • IALR accepts the manuscript on a rolling basis. Manuscripts received after the submission deadline shall be considered for publication in Volume 5.
  • The submission should be accompanied by a Covering Letter, which must include the following details:

The Human Rights Lawyering Project (HRLP), National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore is currently looking for a Researcher to join the team in Bangalore. The work will include research and fieldwork, organizing and preparing materials for workshops, and providing research support to the Coordinator for working on publications, and performing other tasks for meeting project deadlines efficiently.

About the Project

The Human Rights Lawyering Project (HRLP) was set up as an effort to strengthen university initiatives through clinics and legal aid centres, students initiatives and interest in social justice issues and empowering young lawyers and legal professionals working on access to justice. The Project aims to:

  1. Bridge silos between law schools, lawyers and legal aid institutions by identifying and addressing gaps
  2. Setup or scale existing clinical courses and legal services clinics at law schools
  3. Improve service quality for both law schools and lawyers by participatory training through conferences and forums

Remuneration

The maximum amount payable for the job opportunity at NLSIU will be a consolidated amount of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000/– per month.

Qualifications

  • The applicant must have a background in law
  • Must have good research skills and proven fluency in written and spoken English
  • Initiative and the ability to work on his/her own will be appreciated.
  • Fieldwork and organizing work may include travel within India.
  • Previous experience is not mandatory
