Jindal Global Law School

Jindal Global Law School is a part of O P Jindal Global University, Sonipat. It offers BALLB (H.), BBA LLB (H.), LLB, and LLM as courses. Founded in 2009, JGLS has managed to rank as the number 1 law university in India according to the QS rankings. It is located in Sonipat, near the Jagdishpur Village in Haryana.

It has an extensive website which gives a detailed insight into the working of the University (https://jgu.edu.in/http://www.jgls.edu.in/five-year-ba-llb-hons/ ). The website provides a first-time visitor with the details of the faculty, clubs, academic plan, placements etc.

The University has a wide range of facilities available on campus. The campus is quite expansive. The Student Housing (SH) blocks are designed by a French architect and are adequately spacious and well-organised. Each block has a common room for students to sit, interact, and have meaningful conversations. There are microwaves on each floor to assist students with their food cravings. Each block also has an independent vending machine for snacks. The library is spread over 10000 square feet of area and plays an essential role in the information assimilation of students. It has books ranging on all topics and has a peaceful atmosphere. The University also provides several online subscriptions to its students which enhances their learning of the subjects.

The academic structure of JGLS is up to date and follows a coherent pattern. An academic structure is planned well in advance with relevant materials for students to study. This college has a mix of both international and national faculty members who are very well-specialised in their respective fields. The tuition fee for one year is 5.75 lakhs, and the residential fee per annum is 2.25. Thus, the total fee sums up to 8 lakhs per year. The dining services were manged by Sodexo till the summer of 2020; Good Host Spaces has been given the responsibility now. Along with the dining facilities, there is a food court on campus with brands such as Subway, Burger Point, 34 Chowringhee Lane, Street Foody Punjab Grill, Broncos, Moti Mahal, Domino’s Pizza, Breakfast Round the Clock & Keventers operating. There are several tuck-shops in the campus too, they include- Coffee Café Day, Nescafe, Fresh Fruit and Juice Shop, Juice N More.

Various student activities are conducted on campus on a regular. The college has multiple clubs like the moot court society, the debating club, the dance society, the legal aid clinic etc. Numerous day fests are also organised at Jindal Global University. One thing that sets apart JGLS from other universities in the Office of Career Services which helps students with internships and placements. It mentors students and gives them top-notch career counselling. It creates opportunities for students to intern at good and well-renowned places. They not only bring offers for students, but they also actively encourage students to intern as much as they can. I have experienced this personally; I was allowed to intern with Child Rights and You, one of the most-efficient NGOs in India. A large number of students does create a problem sometimes, but JGU is well-equipped with facilities to tackle this problem whenever need be. JGU has international collaborations with over 155 universities which helps students pursue their aim of doing masters in their respective fields. It has a memorandum of understanding(s) and academic partnerships with International and top Indian law firms, including White & Case, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners, FoxMandal Little, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Nishith Desai Associates, Economic Laws Practice, Khaitan & Co., Vaish Associates and Trilegal which gives its students a unique platform.

Tamil Nadu National Law University

The Government of Tamil Nadu established Tamil Nadu National Law School in the year 2012 through Tamil Nadu National Law School Act, 2012 with an initial contribution of Rs. 100 crore. By the 2018 amendment in the act, it was renamed as Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU). The Chief Justice of Madras High Court is the chancellor and currently in the year 2020, Prof. (Dr.) V.S Elizabeth is the vice-chancellor of TNNLU.

TNNLU campus is located about 12 kilometres from the Tiruchirappalli Central bus stand or railway junction. It is a 25-acre campus situated in the Dindugal National Highways 45 at Navalurkuttapattu village, Tiruchirappalli.

The official website of TNNLU has all the essential information we seek. The official website is http://tnnlu.ac.in/

There is a plural and diverse atmosphere in the university for the students and faculties to have a quality teaching and research facilities. The university encourages planting and maintenance of trees, and it imparts environmental education to its students. Also, the campus is 10 kilometres away from the District and Sessions Court and other Sub-ordinate Courts which facilitates productive interaction between the Bar and the TNNLU.

The TNNLU Library acts as per the rules enlisted under TNNLU Library Rules, 2019. It aims to emerge as a modern and leading law-related library in South India with a characteristic feature of interdisciplinary. It has the latest technologies in enhancing its use and resources. The library has facilities such as photocopying, scanning, printing and spiral binding. Besides magazines and newspapers, it has a subscription to 23 print journals and also has a subscription to major online databases. The facility of remote accessing has been provided throughout the campus on LAN and Wi-Fi. Usually, the library is open for 18 hours a day except in the days of holiday.

TNNLU hostel runs under the Tamil Nadu National Law University Hostel Regulations – 2017. It facilitates the students coming from various backgrounds opportunity to inculcate a spirit of collaboration and goodwill and also promotes fraternity and national integrity. There are separate hostels for men and women where a faculty-in-charge for each of the hostels shall be appointed by the vice-chancellor where the warden acts under the direction of them.

Currently, two-five years integrated undergraduate programmes are offered in TNNLU such as B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com.,LL.B. (Hons.) Various activities like moot court exercises, research projects for every semester, inter-disciplinary lectures and compulsory internships to be done every year, which is mandatory for awarding the degree are all spread over the ten semesters. One year LL.M. degree program is offered in three streams, namely in corporate and securities laws, intellectual property laws and natural resources law. The students must complete nine courses for awarding the degree. Students are admitted only through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for both UG & PG courses.

The cafeteria is well maintained and well equipped to provide a fantastic experience to the students, staff and faculty on the university campus. The canteen caters for refreshment and eatables. The prices of the food items are easily affordable by the students. The cafeteria serves fresh fruit juices, sandwiches as nutritious, healthy foods. It also serves milkshakes, ice-creams, etc., for avoiding the purchases of students from shops outside the university.

For the students to engage themselves in useful activities, the university has various clubs and committees such as debate and literary committee, photography club, eco-club, music club, dance club, art club, sports club and film club for the students to develop and present their skills.

As TNLU is a developing university, the placement opportunities are less compared to other law colleges and universities. It definitely will have excellent opportunities in the future.

The best thing about this university is the numerous amounts of committees which conduct activities regularly. This provides a platform for the students to enhance their skills.

In addition to the committees organised by the university, student-run study circle are also formed with the support of the university such as international law study circle, Constitutional law study circle, Elections study circle and so on.

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences

I am a second-year student pursuing my BA LLB degree from The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, West Bengal. My college is located at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan 12, LB Block, Sector-III, Salt Lake City Kolkata 700098 and more information can be accessed through their official website https://nujs.edu/nujs-kolkata.html.

Our college is located barely at the distance of 11km from the Subhash Chandra International Airport, and three railway stations are also located within a radius 8 km from our college. The city is full of surprises and rightly called the City of Joy as it never fails to bring joy to people, be it in terms of food, the diverse culture, tourist spots or even any regular lane of Kolkata will not fail to provide you with the essence of the entire city.

I stay in the college hostel, and the environment is so light and breezy in there. Girl’s hostel is like a different world in itself. Most of the rooms have different coloured walls, even within the room. It gives you a glance of the various characters that you will meet once you enter the hostel. There is no concept of day and night in our hostel. With seniors giving you late night tips over Maggie for next day exam to the same seniors partying with you in next college event, they become family who makes your survival a little more comfortable when you are far away from home.

Invicta and Outlawed are the major fests hosted by our college in February. Our college also hosts various moot, ADR and debate tournaments in the Winter Semester. Strict, No Ragging policy is followed in our college, and any case of ragging is severely punished.

Our college fee is paid semester wise with the two semesters being Monsoon and Winter. The yearly fee of approximately amounts to Rs 3,10,000, which is the highest among all national law schools. The cafeteria of our college is pretty decent, where one can hang out and get food at affordable prices.

Various committees are working to make college life more fun and informative at the same time. Our college also started a series of online lectures on YouTube, where college faculties interacted with various renowned people from the legal fraternity on the contemporary issues brought into light by the COVID epidemic.

The academic syllabus is divided into ten semesters for five years, and the first three years, students are required to study subjects of both law and BA. Students then choose electives in the fourth year as per their interests and GPA of previous years.

Our college has a smaller campus as compared to other national law universities whose campus is spread into acres and acres of land. But this cannot be taken as a disadvantage as our college is located in the main city, which makes access to other parts of the city easy and quick. We have a vast library and also offer personal collections of various eminent legal personalities. Our college is ranked third among all national law universities as per the last year’s national law university ranking.

Our college has a very impressive history of in-campus placement, where the most prominent law firms in India come every year.  The atmosphere of the entire college is super relaxed, and I consider myself lucky that I have been able to become part of this institution. College is, not just a place of rote learning and a college which offers one a whole range of opportunities, not only academic but non-academic is every law student’s dream.

MUIT provides the mess facility to the hostellers and day scholars, both with reasonable charges, including within the hostel fee. It provides a healthy meal three times a day, and a cafeteria is also there for small gatherings that contain tea snacks for students. The Noida campus is an active cultural hub. It organizes sports week, a cultural festival and a street play by the best theatres ever year. Faculty members and students make active and conscious efforts to encourage a vibrant atmosphere that exposes students to various modes of thought and expression and brings them closer to India’s dynamic cultural identity.

In keeping with the mentorship based approach, the MLS pedagogy includes a compulsory internship component from the first year. Students get an opportunity to intern every year of study, which gives them an edge in the job markets. By the end of the taught programs, it offers student access to an entire job network, which increases the chance of employment several-fold. Various job fairs and placement fairs are organized to enter the house of legal and corporate offices.

The best thing in MUIT is the quality of learning provided by faculty members and cultural activities. The worst thing is the sports facility and lack of food in the cafeteria.

DHARMASHASTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, JABALPUR

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) was established by the Madhya Pradesh national law university act 24 of 2018. The vision of the University is to impart and decimate the knowledge of the law and to promote and develop the culture for research development and advancement of legal education. Vice-chancellor of the University is professor Balraj Singh Chauhan.

LOCATION

The University is located in Jabalpur, at Army cant. Area, which is safe for the students and especially for the girls, although Jabalpur is not a proper city for professional development.

Location: Located in Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training

Address: South Civil Lines, Pachpedi, Lekha Nagar, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh 482001

Official website

The official website is well maintained. All the updates regarding events and notices are duly uploaded on it. The link of the official site is https://mpdnlu.ac.in/

INFRASTRUCTURE

  1. CAMPUS: Currently, we don’t have our campus, and the rented one is too good for the college premise compared to other NLUs. It’s not massive but still, suffice our purpose and rent is too expensive.
  2. LIBRARY: We have all the essential e-subscriptions like SCC online, JSTOR etc. It has all the required books to study law. The textbooks are limited, and there is a need for more books. But yes, the University is working hard to provide all the essential books required by the students. Library fully wi-fi premises are suitable for reading and research purposes.
  3. HOSTEL: As it’s a rented building and owned by the BSNL, hostels are good. The rooms are very spacious, and the mess is there in the hostel, even the food is delicious compared to all the universities. We had badminton courts, basketball courts, and volleyball courts also. There is a separate room for indoor games in a hostel.

ACADEMICS AND FACULTIES

The teachers were appointed recently by the panel of learned vice-chancellor of other NLUs and professors. Teachers appointed are knowledgeable. Along with them, research cum teaching assistants are also appointed. There are some faculty which hold a good command over there subject, but here the review differs as per the choice of subject and teacher; otherwise, some teachers are outstanding, and some are average, but yes all the faculty try hard to solve the doubt of the students, and they are available every time, whenever students need. They give their full support.

ADMINISTRATION AND FEE STRUCTURE

The administration is working hard. You are free to talk to VC, sir, and head of the department working hard, and students are free to speak with the administration about their problems. The fee is a bit too high in comparison to the other universities.

CAFETERIA

The cafeteria is not right, lack of availability of food and charge a high price for the food items. There are enough tables and chairs for all the students of our University to enjoy their time with pieces of snacks available on a payment basis.

STUDENT CULTURE AND ACTIVITIES

As its only two years since the inception of the University, and the University till now is blessed with two batches. Being the 1st year student, I can say seniors are right; they are accommodating and always available whenever you need any help. And there is a lot of competition in two batches and its challenging to make good friends. Students are very talented. You will find all types of students, those who want to learn, get loads to learn. Lots of extracurriculars, debates moots, sports, and even music are encouraged and supported.

PLACEMENT

No placement till now, as evident it being two years for University to be opened, and yes, we can hope for the placement in upcoming years. The internship and placement cell has great plans to look for it. Presently, no batch has yet passed out. Internships opportunities in various fields of law are handpicked and scrutinized in by the cell for the students to choose.

BEST THING

The best thing is hostel rooms as they are very spacious and yes, our vice-chancellor professor Balraj Singh Chauhan sir. The best thing about the University, in my opinion, is the system of on-campus education where a student can get out of his home, on to the field and make himself independent to make decisions for themselves. But the things differ to every student as all of them don’t have the same likings.

WORST THING

The worst thing can be as presently we do not have our campus, and it’s a rented one, so sometimes we face many restrictions. Worst obviously is the rented campus which eats up a significant part of the funds making the administration pennywise while providing facilities. However, the University’s campus is under construction. As soon as the necessary infrastructure is built, we all will be shifted.

The courses offered by the Department of Laws, GNDU are LLB(Three-year course), B.A.LLB ( Five years integrated course) and LLM. Around 40 dignified teaching faculty members are part of this department. Many of the teaching staff are PhD scholars. All the teachers are well experienced in their fields. The basis for the admission to the courses offered by the department is based on the State Level Admission Process,i.e. according to orders of Govt.of Punjab.

Activities like Moot Court competition, Quiz Competition, Debate Contest etc. are well organised by the Dept. of Laws, GNDU every year. Further at University level, an Inter-Departmental cultural programme known as JASHAN is organised by the University every year in which all the departments of the University participate with full enthusiasm.

The best thing about my Law school is that the teachers here are most friendly and they always try to solve the problems of students from the root level itself. They always try to give their best to the students out of their bag of experience. Also, there is no place for RAGGING in our university itself, which makes this place more comfortable to survive and learn.

The worst thing about my Law school is that herein the Major- Minor system of examination is not sound, which leaves students with almost no time to do other activities. However, it is essential to held exams so that the students could be assessed, but the University should opt for half-yearly or Annual examination system so that students should experience something and gain more knowledge while getting more familiar to the concepts.

Its been completion of my third year here in GNDU and I have collected much of my good and bad memories here in this university. I have got opportunities to know many people of a different culture, from different places. Just two years left for connecting with many people, for collecting more memories. I feel so blessed to be the part of Department of Laws, GNDU.
