Cafeteria-

VIPS has the best cafeteria area near the garden area of the college. Currently, it has 4 food shops including nestle and Mr. shake. The prices are very nominal and the college has its own digital application that can be downloaded in both android and apple phones. The name of the application is VIPS café where you can place an order online. Well, this is what we call as taking the best utilisation of the technology.

STUDENT CULTURE AND ACTIVITIES

VIPS has a friendly environment, and no ragging takes place here. Students find it very comfortable to connect with teachers. There are many facilities provided to students at VIPS i.e., ragging free environment, air-conditioned classrooms, individual student care, personality development programs, global exposure programs, central library, moot court facility/ Lok Adalat/ MUN, cultural and tech fest, legal aid society, sports facilities and many more, the list is endless.

There are different societies based on different interest areas like dance, music, art, photography, dramatics, MUNs, nukad natak, etc. VIPS has basically got a society for every talent a student can have. Each society has been given a different name. VIPS gives equal importance to every talent and extra co curricular activity of student rather than just focusing on academics.

The best part is VIPS also has a meditation room where any student can go and meditate if feeling low, sad, or requires mental peace.

SRM School of Law, Kattankulathur

BRIEF INTRODUCTION:

SRM School of Law was established in the year 2015 in the Kattankulathur campus. We all know that SRM has entered into all the fields and also in LAW. The School of law provides three law-related courses in which two of them are undergraduate 5-year-integrated courses [B. An LL.B (Honours) & B.Com LL.B(Honours) and a postgraduate 3-year course [LL.B(Honours)]. SRM University is widely education centre among people. SRM has its campuses in many states across the country like Delhi-NCR, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and much more. SRM has achieved from pocket activities to rocket methodologies. Even now it’s currently working on COVID VACCINE with BHARATH BIOTECH from 7th of July. NAAC has accredited SRM with the highest A++ grade in the year 2018, which is valid for the next five years. Our University is one of the universities in India to constitute an International Advisory Board(IAB) in 2003 with 31 distinguished deans, directors and professors from top universities across the world.

LOCATION:

The Campus is situated slightly far from the city, it would take an hour to drive, and it is about 40kms from the Chennai City on NH45 and around 20kms from Chennai Airport. It can be said that University is connected by all means, i.e., through roadways, railways and airways. Railways is an easily accessible and cheapest mode of transport that is used by Day-Scholars daily. As Potheri Railway Station is situated straight opposite to the Campus, people need to cross and can get shuttle service to enter the Campus.

OFFICIAL WEBSITE:

https://www.srmist.edu.in

INFRASTRUCTURE:

CAMPUS:

The Campus is well-constructed, and the highlight of the Campus is that it spreads over an area of 250 acres. It has a central library with vast resources. It has an air-conditioned auditorium that can accommodate up to 4,500 people. There’s also a 3-star SRM hotel attached to the Campus.

LIBRARY:

The Library is what I would call a speciality, especially for the bookworms it would be heaven. SRM School of law holds it’s separate law library despite the central Library which is situated in the University Building. Law library consists of books of almost all the acts of the Indian law written by different authors. Both the libraries are fully air-conditioned. Central Library is only accessible to the students and staffs who belong to the Campus as it is equipped with RFID(Radio-frequency Identification).

HOSTEL:

I am a day scholar, yet I have heard a lot about the hostel and its grand infrastructure. Both A/C and non-A/C hostels are available. There is a separate provision for the NRI students as well. The facilities within the hostel such as the gym, TV room, playroom, study room, etc. are top-notch. There is a wide variety of food available in a mess. Cultural and sports events are also conducted from time to time. Laundry and other food services provided within the hostel premises is impeccable.

ACADEMICS AND FACULTIES:

SRM School of Law places due diligence on academics and shows a more significant concern on the students as well. Faculties are appointed in such a way by ensuring that they would share greater insights with the students and stressing for growth on our advocacy skills. Our Law School has a moot court hall precisely like a courtroom which is also fully air-conditioned. Our Law School takes pride in hosting the National Level Moot Court Competition at least twice a year. SRM School of Law has also given importance to the linguistic differences, as some of the students are from rural areas and small towns, SRM School of law has also conducted TAMIL MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS.

CAFETERIA:

No campus in Chennai will have Food facilities as SRM CAMPUS does; it would not be a joke if I say that a lot of students have joined SRM, especially for its fantastic food facilities. JAVA Canteen is the most famous one among the Campus; it consists of nearly 25-30 shops, where you can all types of Indian cuisine.

STUDENT CULTURE AND ACTIVITIES:

As mentioned earlier, students are from different parts of the country and some from different countries too. So students share a multi-cultural environment. Students from 4th and 5th year lead the MOOT COURT SOCIETY and DEBATE SOCIETY where it is an excellent platform for the juniors to learn and enrich their legal skills. SRM LAW SCHOOL also conducts FOUNDATION month program every year in February in which sports competition takes place.

PLACEMENT:

As the School of LAW is only since 2015, it is in the process of setting up the placement cell. Of course, students got placed in Zoho and many other companies last year with campus placement, but School of law is yet to make a perfect and a well-structured placement cell.

BEST THING:

As discussed earlier Library and food facilities would be the best thing that happened to most of the people in my University. Also, my friends from different places and cultural backgrounds have taught me their traditions.

WORST THING:

Location of the college is the absolute difficulty involved, as a day scholar there is more hardship in travelling and spending nearly 2-2.5hours(To & fro) daily on commuting between home and the college, either by road or rail for a student from Chennai City (As most of the day scholars are from Chennai). It also causes difficulty in attending daily internship as it would be very late to return to court after the classes.

ANY OTHER: TIMINGS

Another thing I would like to tell about my Law School is its timing, we have classes from morning from 8:30 am – 1.30 pm, and in between, we have a break for 20mins which commences from 11-11.20am.
