Law School Review

Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies (VSLLS) of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (hereinafter VIPS) is committed to realising the words of Swami Vivekananda: “Man Making, Character Building and Nation Building”. It is a private college established in the year 1988 affiliated by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (hereinafter GGSIPU), recognised by Bar Council of India and UGC under section 2(f), with NAAC ‘A’ accreditation. VIPS is mostly appreciated for its law branch i.e. VSLLS. The college admits students for law through CLAT examination based on the cut-off, which is declared on the college website every year, and the college also has management quota.  Dr S.C. Vats, Chairman, VIPS, a great philanthropist and educationist believes in perfection. Thus, the motto of VIPS is “in pursuit of perfection”. The dean for the VSLLS department of VIPS is Dr Rashmi Salpaker. Currently, the Law School of VIPS is running the programmes B.A.LL.B., B.B.A.LL.B., and LL.M.

VIPS has an eco-friendly lush green campus spreading over five acres of land. The institute is centrally air-conditioned. The classrooms are designed in a very modern way with equipment like smart boards and projectors, so that students can learn as much one can and it enhances one’s learning experience. The campus has moot courts and conducts both intra and inter-college competitions throughout the year. VIPS is considered to be one of the best colleges in Delhi.  VSLLS also has smart classrooms, executive conference rooms, Moot Courts, Legal Aid cell, practical training labs, resource centers, and communication & computer facilities.

VIPS has a separate law library containing thousands of books, bare acts, case manuals, etc.

Everything is well managed and you also get computer access in the library with SCC online in case one wants to search for some case laws. VSLLS has four-plus state of art resource centers. E-Library with a large number of relevant digital books, periodicals, and journals on all aspects of Legal Studies. The seniors of the college provide juniors/freshers with a session where they teach them how to use SSC online.

Well, this might disappoint the readers a bit especially those who are not from Delhi, the college doesn’t have in house hostel facilities. Though one can find PG and flat facilities nearby college and it has a very safe environment.  The college would also provide you with the contact details of pg owners.

The faculty members have degrees from Delhi University, National Law Schools, NLUs and other reputed foreign, Central and State Universities. They also have an enriching experience in teaching and researching in these Universities and have had exposure to diverse professional industry experience including practicing in the Supreme Court of India, High Courts, and reputed corporate, legal, and banking firms. The dean of the VSLLS department is Dr. Rashmi Salpekar. Their professional competence is further enriched with a strong value system imbibed in them through institutional culture practiced and professed by Swami Vivekananda. To read in detail about the subjects and syllabus of each semester of B.A or B.B.A, you can visit the official website of VIPS which is mentioned above in this article.

The fees mentioned above are for the 1st year only and will probably increase by approx. 5% every year. Each academic year is of 2 semesters. At the time of admission, one would have to pay a sum of 40,000 INR as registration fees.

VIPS has the best cafeteria area near the garden area of the college. Currently, it has 4 food shops including nestle and Mr. shake. The prices are very nominal and the college has its own digital application that can be downloaded in both android and apple phones. The name of the application is VIPS café where you can place an order online. Well, this is what we call as taking the best utilisation of the technology.

VIPS has a friendly environment, and no ragging takes place here. Students find it very comfortable to connect with teachers. There are many facilities provided to students at VIPS i.e., ragging free environment, air-conditioned classrooms, individual student care, personality development programs, global exposure programs, central library, moot court facility/ Lok Adalat/ MUN, cultural and tech fest, legal aid society, sports facilities and many more, the list is endless.

There are different societies based on different interest areas like dance, music, art, photography, dramatics, MUNs, nukad natak, etc. VIPS has basically got a society for every talent a student can have. Each society has been given a different name. VIPS gives equal importance to every talent and extra co curricular activity of student rather than just focusing on academics.

The best part is VIPS also has a meditation room where any student can go and meditate if feeling low, sad, or requires mental peace.

VSLLS Placement Cell works with the objective of providing the students with the best opportunities in the field of law. The aspirants are placed with the best law firms, Advocates, and corporations for internship and for post-placement offers. It is the responsibility of this Cell to keep the students informed about the best offers, which benefit them in their areas of interest. Various grooming activities and career counseling sessions, along with the training sessions, are conducted regularly for their overall professional development and for their future endeavors. The Cell provides assistance to not only those who aspire to be recruited by firms but also to those who wish to establish their own venture by providing them the necessary guidance. It maintains a valuable relationship with its past, current recruiters and has established good networking with the help of Alumni who are also in the list of the present recruiters.

Some of the major recruiters include- Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., Panasonic, Asahi India Glass Ltd., Lex India, Juris Law office, Manchanda & Associates, Bharucha and Partners, S.S Rana & Co.

The students also intern with NHRC, Delhi State Legal Services Authority, National Judicial Academy, Telecom disputes and Appellate Tribunal, Central Information Commission, the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, NTPC, ONGC Ltd and many more firms. The college invites Advocates, Law firms, and Corporate firms to conduct on-campus and off-campus placement drives every year.

I would personally recommend this college for pursuing law, given its excellent infrastructure, faculty, reputation, and education. It is one of the best colleges in Delhi and provides its students with maximum facilities and a friendly environment.
