On the 5th of August, after the Indian Premier League Council announced that it would retain all its sponsors, Vivo pulled out of the Indian Premier League 2020 title sponsorship due to a disagreement with the BCCI over a sponsorship discount fee because of COVID 19 and the increasing opposition towards China and Chinese apps following the Galwan standoff. However, the Smartphone handset still has Rs 1,320 crores worth of sponsorship deal left and will resume holding the sponsorship title from 2021-2023.
On the 18th of August, Dream11, a fantasy sports application, has won the bid to of the title sponsorship rights for the IPL 2020. It won the bid against the two e-learning platforms Byju’s for Rs 201 Crores and Unacademy for Rs 107 Crores. The three platforms and the Tata Group sent their Expression of Interest, but the Tata Group pulled out of the race shortly.
