About Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (erstwhile Central Board of Excise & Customs) is a part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs, Central Excise duties, Central Goods & Services Tax and IGST, prevention of smuggling and administration of matters relating to Customs, Central Excise, Central Goods & Services Tax, IGST and Narcotics to the extent under CBIC’s purview.

The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and Central GST Commissionerates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.

About the Indirect Taxes Internship Scheme

The purpose of the Indirect Taxes Internship Scheme is to benefit from the energy and enthusiasm of young Law students/graduates and enhance the quality of defence of Indirect Tax cases. This will offer them an opportunity to hone their skills on a real-time basis in real cases. They will also benefit from the experience of senior officers of the department who will give them valuable hands-on experience in Indirect Taxation matters.

Eligibility

Ten (10) Interns each will be selected from the following two categories:

  • Students who have completed the 2d year of a 3 year LLB course or students pursuing 3d year onwards of a 5 year integrated LLB course. Such students shall be allowed to intern for one or two months, depending upon the requirements of the students and regulations of the college.
  • Students who have completed their LLB degree and have been registered with the Bar Council for less than 2 years. The graduates shall be allowed to intern for six months.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The selected interns shall be administratively attached with the Directorate of Legal Affairs (DLA) for the period of their internship.
  • These interns will be given access to the Supreme Court case files of the Department. They will study the cases, prepare briefs, undertake legal research and generally assist the Department officers in briefing the Government Law Officers/Counsels.
  • The Interns will be deployed for studying the paper books of listed cases and prepare the Briefing Notes in coordination with the field formations. The briefing of Law Officers/Panel Advocates is presently being done by the Officers from the field formations.
  • The Interns can also accompany these Officers to the briefing meetings if needed.
  • The Briefing Notes prepared by the Interns and vetted by the field formations will be forwarded to the Law Officers/Panel Counsels through CAS. However, the field formations will remain fully responsible for effectively defending the case in the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

Stipend

A stipend of 5000/- per month shall be paid to the interns of category (a), and 15,000/- for those of category (b).

Perks

On successful completion of the internship, a Certificate of Internship shall be issued by the Directorate of Legal Affairs.

The Directorate of Legal Affairs shall be responsible for operationalizing the scheme, selection and deployment of Interns. DLA will call for applications directly from premier colleges/NLUs and also by publicizing the scheme through the departmental websites, media or by way of directly establishing contact with leading law colleges.

About the SIAC Virtual Internship Programme 2022

The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the SIAC Virtual Internship Programme.

The program will provide valuable insight into working at a leading global arbitral institution, albeit virtually, and will help you gain a better understanding of the role and function of the Secretariat.

Duration

About the Summer Placement Internship Opportunity at RBI

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is inviting applications for its Summer Placement Internship Opportunity for 2021, the intake of which is 125 students.

Eligibility

Students pursuing

  • Post-graduate courses
  • Integrated five-year courses in Management/Statistics/Law/ Commerce/Economics/Econometrics/Banking/Finance or three-year full-time professional Bachelor’s degree in Law from reputed Institutions/Colleges located in India can apply for summer placement during their penultimate year/semester.

Application Procedure

Eligible students should apply for summer placement through the online web-based application form through their respective institutes to the “Control Offices of Reserve Bank of India”, from 15th September to 06th December of the previous year for an internship starting from April of next year.

Selection Process

  • The Bank will select a maximum of 125 students for summer placement every year.
  • In the month of November/December each year, the interview for the shortlisted candidates will be held at the offices indicated above.
  • The shortlisted outstation candidates will be required to bear the travel costs of the journey to the office of RBI and back for this purpose.
  • Names of selected students will be communicated to the institutes in the month of December/January.
  • Selected outstation candidates will be reimbursed AC II Tier/1st Class return fare by rail from the place of his/her institute to the place of summer placement for undertaking the project.

Duration

Normally the period of placement will be for a maximum of 3 months during the period from April to July. The period may be reduced/extended at the discretion of the Bank.

Location

Summer trainees will be required to undertake the project in various Central Office Departments in Mumbai or the respective Control Offices mentioned above under the Para ‘Role of Institutions’.

Stipend

Summer trainees are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of ₹ 20,000/- per month. Outstation trainees will be required to make accommodation arrangements on their own.

Students desirous of interning with the NCW may upload their applications in the prescribed proforma indicating dates for the caledar year 2021 when they would like to intern with the Commission. A letter of recommendation from the Head of the Institution/Authorised Signatory may also be uploaded. Efforts will be made to accommodate students closer to the dates indicated by them and, in case, it is not possible to do so, alternative dates will be offered. Each intern will need to maintain a diary of the work done by them on each day of internship in the Commission. All interns will also be required to sign a declaration regarding the confidentiality of information/documents that will come to their knowledge.The interns will be selected on the following basis:

Scheme A: First come first serve basis subject to fulfilling the eligibility requirements
Scheme B: 50% weightage for the percentage obtained during last two years and 50% weightage for the quality of the ‘Statement of Purpose’ uploaded as part of the proforma.

NOTE:The maximum number of interns to be engaged at any point of time, under both schemes will be decided by the Competent Authority, National Commission for Women. It is clarified that no honorarium will be paid in cases where the interns work for less than 60 days.

UNFCCC Remote Internship Opportunity [Adaptation Division]: Apply by Aug 15

Background

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the focus of the political process to address climate change. The secretariat supports the Convention, its Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement by a range of activities, including substantive and organizational support to meetings of the Parties.

The Adaptation Division of the UNFCCC secretariat supports the intergovernmental process relating to adaptation. This process includes activities relating to national adaptation plans, the Nairobi work programme, the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage and its Executive Committee, the Adaptation Committee, the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform, adaptation communications and the adaptation registry. The Adaptation Division also engages Parties and stakeholders, including national, regional, multilateral and international organizations, across public and private sectors, civil society and other relevant stakeholders.

About the Internship

Nature and Duration of Internship

  • The remote (or in-person internship, should the current pandemic situation allow) internship is for a minimum period of 2 (two) and maximum of 6 (six) months within the period 01 October 2021 to 30 April 2022.
  • The exact period will be determined based on the availability of the intern and the needs of the division.
  • The selected intern will work remotely, coordinating with the team at the UNFCCC campus in Bonn, Germany.
  • The internship may be in-person should the current pandemic situation allows and upon the intern’s interest.

Responsibilities of the Intern

The intern is expected to contribute to the work on coordinating the collaborative implementation of the Paris Agreement, especially in relation to external communications on adaptation. The intern is expected to perform a range of research, compilation and drafting related tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Undertaking background research of the latest news and developments in the area of climate change adaptation in and outside the negotiation process.
  • Supporting the work on external communications by researching, drafting and disseminating adaptation-related information through the secretariat’s and programme’s communication channels;
  • Supporting Adaptation programme’s events and outputs (ex. newsletters, social posts, articles, documents) from a communications perspective;
  • Undertaking background research on the programme’s communications channels and structure in order to identify possible ways to enhance its use or propose new ones.

Eligibility

Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) or a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) at a recognized university at the time of application and during the entire period of internship.

Candidates must be fluent in English (both oral and written) and have strong writing and note-taking skills. Knowledge of additional UN languages is an asset.

Preference is given to candidates studying in the fields of economics, development studies, environmental sciences, international relations, or other related fields with good understanding of climate change and its negotiating process.

Computer Requirements

  • For a remote internship, candidates will require a laptop or desktop PC (with Windows 10 or newer) or Mac (with the latest MacOS update), as well as a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
  • An Office 365 license will be provided by the UNFCCC to enable the candidate to access official emails, SharePoint, OneDrive and other office applications, such as Word and Excel.

Further computer requirements:

  • An antivirus application which receives regular updates;
  • Browsers must be a newer version with regular updates enabled;
  • Regular Windows 10 updates should be enabled with Windows laptop or PC.

About the Internship

ALG Internship is a full-time program, meaning thereby you cannot do an ALG Internship in combination or in conjunction with any other professional/work commitment or engagement. It must be exclusive, and not part-time. You will be required to provide a declaration to this effect in your application form.

Internships at ALG are organized on the basis of calendar months, i.e. all internships of a month begin on the first working day of the month and conclude on the last working day of the month. It is not possible to select a different duration or starting date of the internship. You will be required to provide your preferred month(s) of internship during your application form. We select internship applicants against available internship slots in any upcoming month. There is a separate selection process for each month and an internship offer, provisional or even final, for one month does not automatically guarantee selection for any other month. Months for which the slots of Internships are fully booked will not be visible and available for selection as the preferred month of internship in the web-form application.

Before filling up the application, you should keep pdf files (max 2MB each) of your publications (up to 3) and/or of your writing samples (up to 3) ready to upload along. (If any writing sample is a part of your academic coursework in an educational program, please mention this upfront inside it.) Internship applications cannot be submitted without uploading at least one publication or writing sample. Your Internship application will be critically assessed on the quality of your legal scholarship evidenced in these documents. At this stage, you will not need to upload any other documents for submitting your application.

On successfully completing the application and submitting it, you will automatically receive a system-generated acknowledgement email with an allotted application number. Please do not reply to the acknowledgement mail.
