On the 5th of August, the Trump Administration, in accordance with the International Emergency Economic Powers Act released executive orders effectively banning two major and widely used Chinese apps TikTok and We Chat from the U.S market citing reasons of a threat to national security. This means Americans will be prohibited from downloading the two apps or advertising on them, forming license agreements with the two apps or holding any transactions with the Chinese apps.
The Executive order has put all TikTok employees under severe distress as it remains unambiguous whether these employees are to be paid or not. Effective from this September 1500 TikTok employees wish to challenge the issue on the 5th and the 14th amendment which safeguards life, liberty and property from arbitrary government action lacking due process of law. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defends the order further insisting on the protection of data privacy.
